This past Thursday our Ap Language class took an unforgettable trip down to my personal favorite hang out place at lunch... Our school library!! :] But this was no ordinary trip. Nope! We were given a test on abcnews.com to discover our political matches- where we fall on the political line. Are we liberal? Conservative? or possibly just the monkey in the middle?
As teenagers, (not discriminating against my own age group or anything) we tend to be ignorant towards what is going on in the world today. Especially now, this up and coming election is extremely important. No matter what happens it's going to be iconic.. its going to make history. And whether it turns out our next president is McCain
or Obama...how much more controversial can you get?
But more towards my wonderful day at the library.. We were given a 10 or 12 [i forget] question quiz on a variety of areas including Foreign Policy (should the US have invaded Iraq?), the Economy, Society (gay marriage?), Healthcare (universal?), and of course the political process.
I never thought a 10 question quiz would stimulate my mind as much as it did. But it was then that I realized something about myself.. I am completely lacking knowledge about our world today. Though it
so important to be informed so that we and I can develop our own views on controversial issues.. but more than that...so that we may
know, period.
But I'm glad that I did take this short and sweet quiz. The funny this is I didn't get McCain or Obama as one of my top candidates. Good, lets keep it that way. But I did get Hillary Clinton as my top 2 candidate! Yet speaking of the two left standing, I'm so sick of kids and teenagers and even adults who have a vote in mind-but for all the wrong reasons.
If you know nothing about this person..about their views on the economy, on healthcare, on abortion, on gay marriage.. Then DONT vote out of absent minded foolishness. "He's old and cute.. McCain!" "Hes the first African American that could be President..Obama!" Its so ridiculous. I've experienced this first hand as kids in my class yelled obnoxiously "Obama! Yeah, he's tight. Vote for him. Ey girl did you vote for him?" "Shut up, I did. I ain't stupid"
Ugh. It makes me sick to my stomach. Don't make this a trend. Don't make voting for Obama "cool". Same goes for McCain. If you honestly believe in this person, then go right ahead and vote as you wish, I respect that.
But if you vote and have no knowledge behind that. Then don't even waste driving to the polls, submitting your vote, and allowing a person to win when you had no idea of their intentions. Plus, your making people like me (who is going to work the poll booths on election day) have more hard, and tedious work to do.
Lovedub..out. ha!
